Planning to spend a few days in Midcoast Maine for a wedding at Hatch Point? You’re in for a treat—this part of the world is bursting with charm, beauty, and hidden gems.
In this post, we’re sharing some of our favorite local spots for great food, stunning views, and memorable adventures. Soak it all in, explore freely…and don’t forget to be back in time to watch the happy couple say “I do”!

The Portland Headlight and Fort Williams Park in Portland, Maine is just one hour from Hatch Point and an interesting taste of Maine history. Take a walk through the park, enjoy the views and you might even be lucky enough to stumble upon a gelato or lobster roll vendor! There’s so much more to see and do in Portland and we know you’ll have a great time exploring. Fave eats: Bite into Maine, Luke’s Lobster Shack, Dimillo’s, and Holy Donut.

The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay is just under an hour drive from Hatch Point and totally worth the time if you have it to spare! Its mission is to inspire meaningful connections between people and nature and promote plant conservation through horticulture, education, and plant science. Take your time and be sure to scout out the giant trolls throughout the gardens! It’s a perfect way to spend an afternoon appreciating the unique natural beauty of coastal Maine.

While in Boothbay, be sure to take a spin through the cute shops and waterfront. Downeast Ice Cream Factory is a must. Handcrafted in small batches since 1979, Downeast boasts popular flavors like Maine Blueberry and Whoopie Pie. With 65 flavors, there’s definitely something for everyone!

Near Boothbay, you’ll find another quaint coastal Maine town– Rockland. The Landings Restaurant is one of our favorites here. Dine al fresco near the water and enjoy fresh seafood and live music. Extraordinary service gives The Landings an extra special touch. We think you’ll love it!
Feeling adventurous? Head over to nearby Camden Hills State Park and hike the Mount Battie Trail. This is a very popular area for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Don’t forget to pack your insect repellent, snacks and plenty of water!

If you’re short on time and want to grab a bite near Hatch Point, you can zip over to Richmond’s Main Street in just a few moments. The Main Street Dairy Treat is a popular stop for those with a sweet tooth, while The Old Goat Pub dishes up a heartier fare–delicious pizza and cold beer served amidst the cozy vibes of perfectly-worn hardwood floors, wood-paneled walls and vintage art. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to linger just a little longer. Another Richmond fave is Annabella’s Bakery & Cafe. Annabella’s serves up yummy breakfast and brunch items!

A trip to our area may include an excursion to Acadia National Park, a true gem in the National Park system. Acadia is one of the top 10 most-visited national parks in the United States. Visitors enjoy 27 miles of historic motor roads, 158 miles of hiking trails, and 45 miles of carriage roads. There’s no shortage of majestic beauty to explore in Acadia! Our favorites spots include Sand Beach, Jordan Pond, Otter Cliffs and Cadillac Mountain.

While visiting Acadia, make sure to stop in Bar Harbor for lunch and stroll down a few of the most iconic streets in the US. One of our favorite restaurants in Bar Harbor is Geddy’s, which boasts ocean-to-table dining on the waterfront.

Need a quick and hearty breakfast for your wedding crew? Annabella’s Bakery & Cafe is just minutes from Hatch Point in Richmond along the banks for the Kennebec. Annabella’s serves delicious breakfast, brunch and lunch menu items.
We can’t leave out the option of spending a day in Boston! Historic sites like The Old North Church, Quincy Market, Faneuil Hall and the quintessential waterfront are must-visit spots! The dining is unmatched in Boston, as well. Make sure you leave enough time in your schedule to enjoy at least one of the city’s notable Italian or Greek restaurants!

Whether you’re staying close to Hatch Point or venturing out a bit farther, Midcoast Maine has no shortage of unforgettable sights and experiences. Spend a day exploring the coastal charm of Boothbay or soaking up the artsy vibes in Rockland. If time allows, take a scenic drive to Acadia National Park or wander the bustling streets of Bar Harbor for a true taste of Maine’s wild beauty. Feeling adventurous? Even a quick day trip to Boston is within reach! And don’t miss local gems like The Old Goat Pub in Richmond for great food and a laid-back atmosphere. However you choose to spend your time, we hope your trip is full of good memories, great meals, and just the right mix of relaxation and adventure.
